{who i am}
I’m a crafty personality, in more ways than one. I’ve never known a universe in which I wasn’t happy unless I was making something. Usually I’m fortunate enough to be surrounded by lots of crafty fun materials, and if I’m not, I make do with what I have. Usually, when I have nothing, I write. Or sometimes I make sculptures from whatever is lying around. It’s an addiction.
I got a degree in Fine Arts and also in Anthropology. The two don’t seem to make all that much sense, but you’d be surprised at how much they overlap. There’s lots of art in both anthropology and archaeology (especially) and it opens you up to cultures and ideas that you might have never known about before. I think that exposure to the world really helps in one’s creative endeavors. Also, many techniques that I learned in archaeology lab I could apply in art – carving plaster sculptures is very similar to digging out pieces of bone! You have to be careful with where you apply your tools, have attention to detail and also have to keep the bigger picture in your head to end with a satisfactory result.
Artistically, I believe in recycling. That can be traced back to my middle school art teacher who never, ever threw anything away. She could find a use for anything. As anyone who knows me can attest, I can’t throw anything away either. There are so many possibilities in this world, it’s a shame that so many of them end up in the trash. I also have a kind of pioneerism attitude about my life – I like the idea of growing your own food, making jams and canning other foods, spinning your own wool, etc. I might not be able to do all these things myself, but the lifestyle really appeals to me.
I like polka dots and stripes (especially together) but am really picky about my other patterns. I like giraffes and octopi the best of all the animals. I like blue, but I find that I never incorporate it anywhere. My favorite color is chartreuse, and I hate the color purple – you won’t find it anywhere. I’m a Sagittarius with weak ankles and a love of travel. I love food – and when I say I love food, I mean that I LOVE food. It’s like a disease.
{what I do}
I like to think of myself as a creative mercenary. I am a photographer, a party planner, and sometimes graphic-designer. I create custom invitations, and I knit big chunky cowls. In another life, I dream about doing interior design and one day opening a shop of my own – either pretty little things or a restaurant/market. I really like food.
