Bridal Shower Invitations

I just finished these bridal shower invites for a friend – fun to put them all together, as she wanted a variety of colors and patterns.

I’ll be offering similar custom invites in my shop, if you’re interested.

How is everyone’s weekends going?

Going Away Party

I made this going away party invites for my aunt who is moving to Indianapolis.  It was the first time that I’ve ever used my gocco – I was kind of scared of it, but it’s so much fun!  That thing will print forever.  The little drawing of a house is actually of their new house in Indiana.

*bonus – you can get one of these custom made for yourself in my shop.

Friday Favorites

sept111.  This lovely pendant reminds me of something you’d find in an alternate universe 50 years ago.  I like the juxtaposition between the hard metal military elements and the presence of a face.  It’s like a really awesome locket.  There’s lots more mixed media-type jewelry over at Metamorph.

2.  I can’t even express how cool this vanity from Vanity Case is.  Made from a vintage suitcase, it holds a mirror and all sorts of bottles and the like.  I think it looks a little bit like a traveling apothecary.  I like all of the little drawers and places to hide things – it would be like an ever-evolving sculpture.  There is also a “liquor cabinet” option that’s pretty cool.

3.  I don’t know if it’s because everyone I know just went to Burning Man, but I’m digging these earthy accessories from Iron and Fire.  Meant to be worn by men and women alike, this particular feather creation could be a necklace or a hair charm or who knows what.  This item might not be up everyone’s alley but I just love the photo styling and how well everything fits within an overall aesthetic.

4.  Wool, felt, stripes?  I’m in!  This market bag from New Moon Rising would be perfect for fall.  I can just see it bursting with squash and other late-season produce from the farmer’s market.

5.  Speaking of fall, this picture really captures a lot of that feeling for me.  Beautiful colors and late-afternoon sunshine.  It’s almost an abstract painting with its shallow depth of field.  Urban Design has lots of wonderful photographs that are all really-well composed and feature color very prominently.

Thanks to this week’s sellers!

Hack It

I’ve only been lucky enough to live near an Ikea for the last year or so.  Before that, it was always plotting whether or not it was worth it to drive the 8+ hours from Denver to Salt Lake City just in order to pick up some cheap good-looking furniture.  Now it’s only 3 hours away which means one thing – MEATBALLS!

After you’ve sated yourself thoroughly (best. french fries. ever) it’s time to move on to the cheap furniture.  It’s a fundamental conundrum – it’s too cheap to not buy, but it’s almost too cheap to justify spending that amount of money on.  I always have this debate in my head, and then I go to the secondhand store and see how expensive SECONDHAND crap furniture is, so I might as well go with the good-looking stuff.  Plus, hey, it’s much easier to take furniture home in a box.

Then there’s the other problem – everyone on the planet Earth has the same furniture that you do.  Brilliant.  That’s where Ikea Hacker comes in.  Lots of great ideas to make your boxed furniture look a little more interesting.  A lot of the projects are kind of lame, but there are some good ones that really make you use your brain.

Pretty Spring Skirts

I’ve been really enjoying my new project.  I have tons of vintage trim that I keep collecting and that I can’t find a use for.  Same goes for vintage scarves.  And I really love these vintage slips that I was dyeing – they are great for lightweight wear in the spring and summer.  Plus, I figure, it’s spring!  And what a better way to beat the winter doldrums than to show a little leg and get happy with some color!

skirts

So I bring you….the flea market skirt!  Lots of fun layers, vintage lace and old hankies as pockets.  A little bit of flair here and there, and you’re the life of the party!  They’re all one of a kind, (though I love custom orders) and they will be available in my etsy shop here in the coming weeks!
