I have a sort of love/hate relationship with jellyfish, in that I love them and think they’re fascinating and beautiful to watch but I hate them because I am really allergic and thus terribly afraid of them. I’ve had my fair share of encounters with the squiggly beasts out there in the wilderness, but I think that I would prefer them in a lovely enclosed container on my desk.

This amazing tank is specially designed to hold jellyfish, which would get sucked up into the water intake of a normal fishtank. Thanks to great success on kickstarter, you can preorder your tank right now!

I can’t believe that I’ve never seen these drawings before – I came across them one day digging around on the internet for something and I was simply stunned. The colors, the attention to detail – it made my scientist/artist heart go pitter-patter.
It’s not always easy to find all of the pictures but I tracked down a site where the guy scanned all of the original pages of this amazing book, which you can find here. Happy hunting!

I love visiting the aquarium. The fish are so interesting to watch, and it’s a great opportunity to experience a part of the world that most people never really get to see. And the colors are so amazing!
It’s always a special challenge to get pictures there – all of the glass and harsh lighting is a pain. A few pointers: shoot at an angle into the glass, instead of straight on; absolutely NO flash; shoot wide to capture the maximum amount of light available, because you can always crop it later.
Do you have an aquarium where you live?
